My name is Luke McConnell and I’m a qualified Counsellor, registered with the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). I qualified in Canterbury, Kent as an Integrative Counsellor which means that rather than working under just one approach (Psychodynamic, Humanistic etc.), I can utilise skills from multiple approaches to suit the needs of the client. I have a preference for working in a Person-Centred way as I value the relationship with the client which I believe is key to a good therapeutic process. If it is something you think would benefit you, I can incorporate my therapy dog (a black Labrador named Guinness) into the sessions. He is a registered therapy dog and can help if you are feeling nervous/anxious and can often be a welcome distraction. It is proven that animals can lower blood pressure and make you feel more relaxed and less stressed (unless you have a phobia of dogs but then he can help to work on those issues too). I have previously worked with adults and young people in education settings, covering a multitude of issues and with children in a primary school which really worked well with Guinness.
Your initial 30 minute assessment will be conducted without Guinness and we can discuss if you feel you would like to meet him and work along side him in your future sessions.
